Violence is preventable
We know that preventing violence is possible, and that knowledge, evidence, and strong feminist principles will help us get there. There is strong evidence from different types of programmes across the world that rates of VAW can be reduced in programmatic timeframes.
In rural Rwanda, an evaluation of the Indashyikirwa couples’ training found a significant reduction in women’s experiences (55%) and men’s perpetration (47%) of physical and/or sexual IPV. Other benefits included reduced conflict, better communication and trust, reduced exposure of children to violence, and improved health and household economic status.
