Since VAW has multiple causes that intersect at various levels, prevention programmes are most effective when they use multiple strategies and activities to address the most relevant gender inequalities, risk factors, protective factors, and situational triggers across the different levels of the socio-ecological model.
This does not mean that every programme has to do everything; rather that organisations need to see themselves and their programmes as part of a system in which their activities combine with those of other organisations to comprehensively address the causes of violence.
