Definitely very appropriate to end on the note of evaluation, considering the different kinds and during the session the very insightful and fun exercise of two truths and a lie of evaluations.
I would advocate for more participatory methods of evaluation to not only promote ownership and sustainability with regards to the communities we work in and with, but also to support the localization agenda and feed into good governance practices that we constantly call for by those who hold power and we can model ourselves even in processes like evaluation.
Welldone to the PC team for all their work over the past eight weeks, before and after and for such a rich learning experience.
It was very interesting discussion learning about implementation challenges across different contexts which uncovered some good practices and ideas that could work in other contexts.
Great session and really helped clarify the difference between pretesting and piloting. It is imperative that we continue to include and push for these elements in our programme designs and proposals – they can only help us get better and our programmes become more responsive.
Being heavily invested in MEL for a number of years has taught me that participatory methods are very useful for gaining insights and promote local ownership of interventions. For prevention programmes, lots of care needs to be taken to ensure that we apply the ethical standards and Do No Harm practices as per standards but we also want to ensure that there is a sense of collective learning and application of the things we learn as we monitor throughout and eventually evaluate.
Hi everyone,
We had an interesting discussion in our group about whether a baseline is part of the inception or implementation phase of the project. In the situation where we would have already completed formative research and it is distinctly different from a baseline, what do you think about this? Is a baseline within the inception or implementation phases?
Meanwhile, allow me to highlight how interesting our exercise was last week – with the role play it helps to bring the task to life and perhaps next time we can play both sides – the funder and the one requesting funding.
Congrats to our facilitators and entire team for getting halfway and thank you for all your support!
