Violence Prevention Academy
We are offering our Learning Lab community a hybrid online learning experience that combines self-paced courses with live virtual sessions facilitated by Prevention Collaborative’s Capacity Strengthening team.
This is your chance to:
- Ask our facilitators questions about the content in our self-paced courses.
- Share your experiences of applying learnings to your work with other practitioners.
The Academy allows you to exchange knowledge through a choice of four learning streams, each connected to one of the following self-paced courses:
How Does The Academy Work?
When you enrol in the Academy, you will select one of the four self-paced courses above to complete over a four-week period between late February and late March 2025.
The Academy will begin with a facilitated live online session to welcome all learners on Wednesday, 26 February 2025. You’ll then have four weeks to complete your selected self-paced course.
During these four weeks, you will have opportunities to connect with other practitioners, share experiences and insights, and enhance your learning journey. This will be facilitated through a follow-up session and a closing live session. All live sessions will be conducted in English by Prevention Collaborative’s Capacity Strengthening team, who bring deep expertise in the course topics.
The Academy is free! Participants who complete their selected self-paced course and attend the live sessions will earn an Academy Certificate from Prevention Collaborative.

The opening live online session will take place on Wednesday, 26 February 2025.
The follow-up and closing live sessions take place in the first week of March and the last week of March (dates are dependant on your selected course).
All live sessions start at 0800 Accra | 1000 Pretoria | 1100 Nairobi | 1345 Kathmandu | 1500 Bangkok time.
Which Self-Paced Course Should I Choose?
Choose one of the four self-paced courses below to commit to completing.
- Prevention Essentials Refresher: The Latest on What, Why and How (Self-Paced) Are you looking to better understand the magnitude, patterns, and latest thinking in violence prevention? Then this course is for you! It is designed for violence prevention practitioners, feminist activists, and women human rights defenders. The course also welcomes anyone interested in violence against women (VAW) prevention and causes, including those working in response to VAW and gender-based violence (GBV) and related fields like sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and health education.
- Starting With Ourselves: Reflecting on Power, Gender and Violence Want to reflect on your own beliefs, behaviours, and social norms about power, gender, and violence?, Choose this course. It is intended for violence prevention practitioners, policymakers, decision-makers, and activists. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the Prevention Essentials Refresher course before starting this one.
- Working With Couples: Prevention Strategies Deep Dive This course explores the key elements of effective strategies to prevent intimate partner violence (IPV). It is designed for practitioners, experienced programme managers, technical leads, and researchers. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the Working at the Intersection of Violence Against Women and Children course as well as Prevention Essentials Refresher before starting this one.
- Transforming Gender Norms for Violence Prevention: The What, Why and How Interested in exploring how social norms perpetuate violence? This course focuses on shifting gender and social norms that contribute to violence. It is ideal for programme managers, technical leads, and donors. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the Prevention Essentials Refresher course before starting this one.
