While mitigation focuses on reducing risks that may arise from humanitarian emergencies and programmes, prevention focuses on addressing the underlying causes of violence to stop violence before it starts or reduce its frequency and severity. For example:
      • Ensuring adequate lighting in communal areas in a refugee camp is an example of a risk mitigation strategy.
      • Mobilising trained community activists and leaders in a refugee camp to transform gender inequitable norms and attitudes that condone violence is an example of a prevention strategy.
While there are overlaps between mitigation and prevention, the key message is that mitigation works alongside prevention and response to address violence.
Hence, universal prevention, selective prevention are targeting violence from occurring while mitigation and response are addressing aftermath of violence in the society

It is categorized as universal prevention as it is aimed on a community and societal level, focusing on preventing violence against women.

In order to prevent violence, I proposed to senzitize either couples, men and boys, the whole community on VAW, its causes, its conciquences on the welbeing of the whole community. This is a universal prevention as no one is excluded. We have to include every one to prevent violence against women and girls.

I will place this activity under universal prevention because violence against women can be prevented and its occurrence can be reduced to the barest minimum.

I would categorize it as universal prevention because the interventions target all community members through raising awareness about gender-based violence. There is no selection of a certain group at risk or specific response to the issue
