Violence prevention is so much important because ignorant is not an excuse anywhere today, the level of awareness marginalized community are exposed to, is a factor that must be checked to curb the acceptance of violence in Mercy community and that’s why prevention of violence is a key. Preventing VAW will stop violence before it starts, or reducing the frequency and severity of further episodes of violence where it has previously occurred. This is different from response, which is about providing support and services to individuals who have experienced violence.
We can see from the diarrhoea diseases that started affecting the entire community people, immediately the scientist and Mercy discovered and introduced the preventive measure, the spreading infection drastically reduced.

Which activities could prevent violence against women in her community? Give one example of a violence prevention activity.
To building a rights Education awareness in the community, if they are educated, their violence rates will drastically reduce. Building a family strengthening programs where both gender are familiar with their responsibilities as couples. Implementation of Behavioural Change among men and women, and finally involving the policy makers in the advocacy against men substance abuse to stop, which enhance violence at home.
        One Example:
Implementation of Behavioural Change among men and women program, where both men and women share their differences, behavioural deformity and wayout for better relationship

I have already learned many things on Mercy’s history. I got to know different types of violence like sexual, physical,émotionnel and economic ones. Mercy undergone or heard about all these types of violence. She assisted on physical violence upon her mother during her childhood. When married and get maltreated by her husband, she thought it was fair and normal for all women.
I also got to know that intimate partner violence leads among VAW.The most important I learned in Mercy’s history is that It’s better to prevent, rather than to treat.

In Mercy’s story, women face multiple forms of violence. There is significant acceptance of violence against women due to traditional beliefs, norms, and behaviors that prioritize male dominance and decision-making. There is a lack of knowledge about women’s and human rights. For example, Mercy worked and gave all her money to her husband, who did not even allow her to buy enough food for the family. Mercy had no rights to her own money, and decisions were made solely by her husband.
In Mercy’s story, various types of violence against women are evident, including economic, sexual, physical, and psychological violence, which women face daily. According to her story, there is a greater need for preventing violence against women than simply responding to it. Prevention reduces the risk and severity of violence. It also raises awareness about the benefits of not committing violence against women, which can help reduce its prevalence. Prevention also mitigates risk factors, thus reducing the occurrence of violence against women.

            Activities:
Community-based activities to prevent violence against women, including the introduction of evidence-based prevention approaches such as the SASA methodology and the Indashyikirwa approach. These approaches have been proven effective in preventing violence against women by challenging community norms, attitudes, and beliefs.
            Specific activities:
            – Awareness-raising campaigns using communication materials and radio programs to reach many community members.
-Conduct dialogue sessions on the effect of Violence against women
-Organize evening sessions with couples to discuss about Violence Against women and how power can be balanced in their families.
